Norm Shinn grew up on a farm in the Midwest, spending his free time throughout his life outdoors hiking, camping, and hunting. His career spanned the fields of aircraft mechanics, directing service departments for charter operators, serving as liason for the FAA and piloting aircraft. In 2012 he retired as a commercial airline pilot after 21 years of service, but continued to pilot for a private business through 2018. He attended Tom Brown Jr.’s Tracker school in 2000 and continued training there through 2007. He has taken numerous Coyote Trails classes and volunteered over the years, including as an instructor-in-training and occasionally as a guest instructor. Now living part time in Ashland, OR, Norm continues to be passionate about nature awareness, continuing to develop his own skills, and passing on earth-based skills to others.
