Carol Jensen

Board Member

Carol has more than 30 years of experience in community education and recreation, with extensive experience in budgeting, administration, oversight, and grant writing for youth programs. For the past 22 years, she was Director of Pre-College and Youth Programs at Southern Oregon University. Programs included:  administration of academic competitions for Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath counties; the Advanced Southern Credit program for high schoolers to earn college credit; and extensive summer programs and residential camps.  Under her guidance, SOU developed such programs as Academia Latina for Latino/Hispanic students, ACADEMY for talented and gifted kids, Konaway Nika Tillcum for Native American students, and AWSEM (Advocates for Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics) for middle school girls. Much of her career has been dedicated to helping children develop a vision for themselves for higher education. Prior employment includes Executive Director of the Ashland Family YMCA and Executive Director of the San Luis Obispo Family YMCA. For many years, she served on the Board of Directors of the Ashland Independent Film Festival and as an interviewer for Ford Scholars, the Ford Family Foundation program for awarding college scholarships. Carol was born and raised in Ashland, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Community Education, Recreation and Park Management from the University of Oregon.
