RENEWABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT (RED) GRANT KICK-STARTS PROJECT

Last year, the Medford Parks & Recreation Department unanimously approved moving forward on installing 12.48-kilowatt solar photovoltaic equipment at the Coyote Trails Nature Center, where the goal is to become a net-zero energy facility. We expect the system to generate a net of 11,154 kilowatt-hours each year, saving Coyote Trails an estimated $675/year in energy costs; which roughly equals one scholarship for a student to attend a week long overnight program.

Granted $12,419 from the Oregon Department of Energy, we plan to eliminate 229 tons of carbon dioxide from our "footprint," equivalent to saving 5,336 trees, and 23,358 gallons of gasoline, or displacing CO2 emissions from the annual electric use of 26 homes.
