emma hide smallJoin us at our semi-primitive camp in beautiful Southern Oregon, learning the art and science of transforming a deer skin into durable, soft, smoked buckskin.  Engage hands-on in a wet-scrape braintan buckskin process that honors the animal using a mix of primitive and simple modern tools to create a completely natural, compostable fabric that can be used for a variety of projects including clothing, moccasins, bags, quivers or anything else you would use store bought leather for.  This weekend will cover everything from acquiring deer skins to smoking the softened hide and everything in-between.

All tools and materials provided.  Camping & meals included (*Bring your own lunch for the first day only). Please enter your dietary needs in the "comments" section of the online registration. You will partner with another student on one hide so as to learn completely without burning yourself out, as this is a labor intensive process!  Days will be filled with hands-on learning while evenings will be time for relaxing around the campfire.  You will take home half of the hide you process along with the knowledge and “dirt-time” to continue on your own.
